Privacy

What we collect,
and what we
do with it.

We collect what is needed to take an order and get it to you. We do not sell personal information to anyone.

Who we are

This policy covers Charcoal Spit Roasters and the website at charcoalspitroasters.com.

We are a small business. Businesses of our size generally sit outside the scope of the Privacy Act 1988, but we handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles regardless, because it is the right way to run a shop.

What we collect

  • Order information: your name, email address, delivery address, and phone number if you give us one. We need these to take payment and deliver the goods.
  • Account information, if you choose to create an account, so you can see past orders.
  • Messages you send us through the contact form or by email.
  • Site usage data, such as which pages were visited and roughly where in the world the visit came from.

We never see or store your full card number. Payment details are entered directly with the payment provider and handled on their systems, not ours.

Cookies and analytics

The site uses cookies to keep your cart working and to remember you between pages. Those are necessary for the shop to function at all.

We also use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. It collects usage data and sets its own cookies. You can block cookies in your browser, though parts of the checkout may stop working if you block all of them.

Who else sees it

We share the minimum necessary with the services that make an order work:

  • Our payment provider, to process your payment.
  • The courier, to deliver your order.
  • Our web host and email provider, which store the data as part of running the site.
  • Google Analytics, for site usage data.

Some of these providers store data on servers outside Australia, including in the United States. Placing an order means accepting that transfer, which is unavoidable for a small online shop using standard services.

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.

Your choices

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, or ask us to delete it. Contact us and we will action it, subject to records we are legally required to keep, such as sales records for tax purposes.

You can unsubscribe from any marketing email using the link in it. Order confirmations and delivery updates are not marketing and will still be sent.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, tell us first and we will try to fix it. You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
