Description
The flip grate in an enclosed box body, with a charcoal tray that pulls
out from the side. Built for cooking somewhere the weather has an opinion.
A box, on purpose
Solid walls do one useful thing: they keep the heat the coals make where the food is.
On an open frame a breeze skims heat off the top and away, and the cook compensates by
burning more fuel. The F2 holds its temperature through wind, which makes it steadier on a
balcony or an exposed block, and more economical with charcoal generally.
Pull-out charcoal tray
The tray slides out sideways, so topping up does not mean lifting the grate or reaching
across live coals with food in the way. Underneath it sits an isolation plate that spreads
heat across the base of the body and keeps the hottest metal off the surface below.
The flip grate
Full width and hinged, so the whole surface turns at once and a full grate of food
changes face together rather than piece by piece.

These charcoal frames have no electric drive. You turn the handle when the food needs
turning, which is what gives you control over how much colour each side takes.
