Description
The F1 frame racked for skewers. Every skewer seats into the same
geared rack, so one turn of the handle rolls all of them together and they all present
the same face to the coals at the same moment.
One handle, every skewer
Most charcoal skewer grills are a trough with notches. You load your skewers, then you
stand there turning them one at a time, and by the time you reach the last one the first
has already taken too much heat on that side. The rack on the F1 removes that problem.
The skewers are geared to each other, so the handle turns the whole row as a unit.
The practical effect is that you cook a full load evenly instead of chasing it, and you
can step back from the fire between turns rather than standing over it.
Setting the heat
The charcoal tray raises and lowers independently of the skewer rack. That is the only
heat control you need on a charcoal grill: move the fuel closer for a hard sear on lamb or
chicken thigh, drop it away for anything with sugar in the marinade that would otherwise
catch before the middle is done.
The frame is open on the sides, which keeps airflow high and the coals lively. If you
cook somewhere consistently windy, the enclosed F2 body holds a steadier temperature.
What it is built for
This is a grill for small cuts threaded onto a stick, which is how a large part of the
world cooks over charcoal. It suits anyone cooking in that tradition at home.
Configurations
Four ways to buy it. The standard configuration is the frame and grate on its own. The
skewer configurations add a rack and the skewers to fill it.
- Standard. Frame, flip grate and charcoal tray. No skewer rack.
- 16 skewers. Enough for a family dinner or a small group.
- 24 skewers. The middle option, and the one most people settle on.
- 32 skewers. A full load for a party, where the shared handle earns
its keep most obviously.

These charcoal frames have no electric drive. You turn the handle when the food needs
turning, which is what gives you control over how much colour each side takes.
